Taisten/Tesido:
The sun terrace between mountain and valley

Away from the transit traffic on a slightly high ground at 1212m above sea level you will find the charming village of Taisten that offers ideal conditions for holidays in absolute peace and quiet. Nobody can say for sure how far back the history of Taisten stretches, but it certainly dates back to prehistoric times. It is assumed that the first settlement took place at the time of the Illyrians and that the origin of the name of Taisten (Tesitin) comes from their language. The Bavarians settled there in about 600 AD when the village developed diplomatic importance, as can be seen from the 3 castles that earlier surrounded the village. Taisten was first mentioned in a document in 770. There is no limit to the walks and hiking trails that lead into a countryside of meadows and woodland with glorious views of the Dolomites. You will find that the nearby world of mountains has retained its original state. A hike to the Taistner Alm is a real must in either summer or winter as is a guided tour of the romantic Georgskirche (St George's Church) for all culture enthusiasts. We have our own ski school and family-friendly ski lifts for all ski freaks.
