Visitation of Mary Chapel – “s’Mahra Kirchl”

Description

The Visitation of Mary Chapel, locally known as “s’Mahra Kirchl”, was originally a plague chapel and was rebuilt in 1830. Its altarpiece depicts the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth. Wooden statues of several saints and surviving votive panels recall epidemics, hardship and war. According to tradition, the chapel was promised in gratitude after the valley was spared from a severe storm. It was restored in 1973.
