Ski tour at the Plätzwiese high plateau in the Pragser Tal Valley – DOLOMITES

The Plätzwiese high plateau in the Pragser Tal Valley lies at around 2000 m and offers you three varied ski touring destinations: Dürrenstein 2839 m, Pyramide/Helltaler Schlechte 2711 m or Pinscharte 2565 m in the heart of Hohe Gaisl. The route is chosen according to the weather and snow conditions. Whichever destination you choose, impressive Dolomite scenery and clear views of the Three Peaks await you. Refreshments are available after the tour on Plätzwiese.

Difficulty: Pyramid easy, Picco di Vallandro and Pinscharte medium.

Time: 08:00 am.-04:00 pm.

Altitude difference: Helltaler Schlechte: 720 m. / Pin-Scharte: 750-1150 m

Route length: 9 km / Helltaler Schlechte or Dürrenstein: 2-2,5 h / Pin-Scharte: 2,5-3 h

Meeting point: 08:00 am. at the train station in Welsberg.

Getting to Welsberg:

By car:

Free parking at the train station and at the Welsberg Mitte exit. The startig area can be reached in 5–10 minutes on foot.

Green mobility:

Bus lines 441 and 438, bus stop “Welsberg, Rienzbrücke”;

Train line 400. The startig area can be reached in 5–10 minutes on foot.

Good to know

For the ski tour, you’ll need touring skis with suitable climbing skins, ski touring boots, poles and a helmet, as well as a complete avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel and probe). Wear warm, weatherproof clothing and bring gloves, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Pack a change of clothes, a snack and a warm drink in your backpack.
